Biography

Sirani M. Perera earned a B.Sc. (First Class Honors) in Mathematics from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in Sri Lanka in 2004. She was selected by the Center for Mathematical Sciences at the University of Cambridge and received support from the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust. She completed the Master of Advanced Studies (Part III Tripos) in Mathematics with Honors at Cambridge in 2006 and earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Connecticut in 2012.

Her academic career has included appointments in Sri Lanka, Canada and the United States. She joined Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2015 and became Professor of Mathematics in 2026.

Research perspective

Dr. Perera works at the intersection of applied mathematics and computation. Her interests include applied linear algebra, structured matrix theory, numerical analysis, scientific computing, fast transforms, low-complexity algorithms, machine learning and structured neural networks. Applications include wireless communication, signal and image processing, dynamical systems, celestial mechanics and autonomous aerial systems.
